Semantic Sicily

SEMANTIC SICILY project is led by PMF Research; it involves 23 Sicilian SMEs funded with regional funds from PO FESR 2007‐2013 Sicily, under the operational objective 5.1.1. “Support the development and strengthening of industrial districts and SMEs groups and implement common services to overcome cognitive and relational deficit of SMEs”.

The partnership develops a research in the field of Semantic Web for a growing number of types of information. The technological platform that is used in the project is based on modern techniques of Cloud Computing. The applications do not run locally, but in a data centre shared between the project partners of the project.

The objective of the project is to develop a semantic core platform, shared by all partners and distributed on a cloud computing hardware. The semantic core is used as starting point for the development of vertical application in various fields of web technology. Some of those fields are e‐learning software, Semantic document management, Semantic Network, Semantic platform, Voice recognition and text mining, real-time translation, Reverse Engineering, Semantic Web Gis, ERP etc.

Thanks to a close collaboration with the LOA‐ISTC‐CNR (Laboratory of Applied Ontology ‐ Institute of Cognitive Sciences and Technologies ‐ Italian National Council of Research) PMF Research develops a Semantic web technology for a collaborative e‐learning and a multilingual Social Network.
