SEMANTIC SICILY is an ongoing project lead by P.M.F. Research, which involves 23 Sicilian SMEs funded with regional funds from PO FESR 2007‐2013 Sicily, under the operational objective 5.1.1. “Support the development and strengthening of industrial districts and SMEs groups and implement common services to overcome cognitive and relational deficit of SMEs”.
The partnership is developing research in the field of the Semantic Web for a growing number of types of information. The technological platform that will be used in the project will be based on modern techniques of Cloud Computing. The applications do not run locally, but in a data centre shared between the project partners of the project.
The objective of the project is to develop a semantic core platform, shared by all of the partners, distributed on cloud computing hardware. The semantic core will be used as starting point for development of vertical application in a lot of fields. Some of those fields are e‐learning, Semantic document management, Semantic Network, Voice recognition and text mining, real-time translation, Reverse Engineering, Semantic Web Gis, ERP etc.
Thanks to a close collaboration with the LOA‐ISTC‐CNR (Laboratory of Applied Ontology ‐ Institute of Cognitive Sciences and Technologies ‐ Italian National Council of Research) P.M.F. has developed a Semantic web technology for a collaborative e‐learning and multilingual Social Networking scenario.
