Musculoskeletal pain affects millions of people, impacting quality of life, work capacity, daily independence, and overall well-being. In this context, the Digi4MSK project was created, and VITECO, a JO Group company, is proud to be a partner.
Digi4MSK, funded by the European Erasmus+ program, promotes health literacy and brings together higher education institutions, research centers, associations, and companies with the aim of developing innovative teaching methods and open training resources.

Why Digi4MSK
Musculoskeletal conditions, such as back pain, joint pain, and functional limitations, are among the leading causes of disability and reduced quality of life.
Patients and the general public often search for information online, but they are not always able to distinguish between reliable sources and inaccurate content or information that is not based on scientific evidence. Similarly, health professionals need up-to-date guidance to support self-management, patient communication, and the adoption of more effective solutions.
This is exactly what Digi4MSK promotes: an approach designed to strengthen health literacy, meaning the ability to understand, assess, and use digital health information. The project aims to make scientific knowledge more accessible, practical, and useful, both for health professionals and for patients and the general public.
An accessible ecosystem
One of the main achievements of Digi4MSK has certainly been the creation of a complete ecosystem of open-access resources. Specifically, the project has developed materials and tools suitable for different contexts: clinical, educational, training, and personal.
The most widely used resources include:
- best practice manuals;
- free online courses;
- workshop;
- multilingual webinars;
- advanced training programs.
All the tools listed here share a common goal: translating scientific research into clear, accessible content focused on the real needs of users.
Manuals for professionals and patients
In addition, two complementary guides have been developed:
- for health professionals: the first is a guide that supports the integration of self-management strategies into clinical practice, addressing challenges such as low adherence to treatment or lack of patient motivation;
- for patients: an accessible guide that provides information on musculoskeletal pain and practical advice to improve self-management and everyday decision-making processes.
Free online courses for flexible learning
Digi4MSK offers free online courses for diverse audiences, using a flexible approach.
Courses for health professionals explain how to integrate self-management practices into care pathways, addressing common issues such as low patient adherence or lack of motivation.
At the same time, courses for patients and citizens help them better understand pain and promote useful behaviors for managing it in everyday life.
Thanks to the online format, these training opportunities can be accessed anywhere, at any time, reducing barriers to knowledge.
Workshops, events, and learning communities
Digi4MSK goes beyond online training. The project also promotes workshops, webinars, and international events, creating opportunities for patients, professionals, researchers, and stakeholders to meet. These activities are designed to encourage hands-on learning, the exchange of experiences, and the dissemination of innovative approaches to musculoskeletal health.
The Digi4MSK conference, aimed at health professionals who regularly treat people with musculoskeletal pain, will be held on September 19, 2026, in Zaragoza, Spain. It will be a key opportunity to explore topics such as patient communication, biopsychosocial models of care, self-management, and the integration of digital health into health services.
VITECO’s involvement in the project
VITECO, an established JO Group company, contributes to the development of a wide range of content, materials, and multimodal activities related to musculoskeletal health, supporting the project in producing resources that are clear, accessible, and consistent with its educational objectives.
Together with the other partners, VITECO also takes part in identifying quality criteria and standards, as well as describing control and quality assurance techniques. This work is essential to ensure that Digi4MSK resources are not only innovative, but also reliable, well-structured, and truly useful for users.
Scientific research + digital innovation = Digi4MSK
One of Digi4MSK’s strengths is its solid scientific foundation. The project develops resources based on evidence and analyses of the real needs of patients and professionals. Among its most promising results are studies on online behavior when searching for health information and summaries of evidence on digital self-management interventions.
Looking ahead, the project aims to generate lasting impact by investing in the development of health professionals’ skills, including through advanced training programs such as the 15-ECTS postgraduate course, focused on a culture of prevention, self-management, and the informed use of digital technologies.
Digi4MSK shows that it is possible to turn knowledge into practical tools that improve people’s lives. Better-informed patients can take a more active role in managing their health, while better-prepared professionals can provide more effective support.
